Keep the kids entertained this half term

October half term can be a difficult time when it comes to keeping the kids entertained, but there’s still so much fun to be had even in the cooler autumn days. With this in mind, we’ve put together some ideas to save those ‘I don’t know what to do’ days.

  1. Get baking
Baking is fun for kids of all ages and what better way to spend a rainy day than preparing some homemade treats for the whole family to enjoy. Whether you try a homemade pizza or something sweeter, it’s bound to get everyone involved and you can carry on enjoying it afterwards!
  2. Have a treasure hunt
Perfect for indoors or outside if the weather permits, children will love finding clues that will lead them to an eventual prize. Use pegs to secure the clues throughout and colour code each clue if you have more than one child to make sure everyone gets a turn.
  3. Get crafty
Help them to make musical instruments using old yoghurt pots, elastic bands, bottles and dried rice and then let them decorate what they’ve made afterwards. Old socks can be great for making puppets if you have any spare and if you have things to be getting on with yourself, dig out the colouring pads and pens and see what creative masterpieces your kids come up with themselves!
  4. Explore nature
Autumn is a great time to show children how fun nature can be. Take a walk through the forest or to the local park, creating fun games along the way. Have your child look out for all the different bugs or animals they cross, or take a crayon and pad with you and see how many different texture prints they can find.
  5. Visit the cinema
A perfect choice for older children and with so many cinema chains providing special deals, it’s a great opportunity to keep the kids amused for a smaller cost.
